DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA

>>Visit the official Daytona Beach website<<

Daytona Beach is on the east coast of Florida, approximately 70 miles northeast of Orlando, and 300 miles north of Miami. Racing, bikes and bikini's- Daytona has it all! As it's nickname "The World's Most Famous Beach" implies, the city is all about the ocean and beach, even in winter. Hotels, restaurants and bars abound, as you will see!

FOOD & DRINK
THE OCEAN DECK
127 S Ocean Ave - Daytona Beach - 386-253-5224

This is THE beach place, right next to the pier, right on the Atlantic Ocean. There are volleyball nets right out side and the proper attire is bathing suits! The best oysters in Daytona, but you can only get them steamed. Try all the seafood- crabs, clams, shrimp and the most amazing grilled Mahi-Mahi sandwich! Live music (usually Caribbean or Reggae) provides a night club atmosphere in the evening hours.

DOWN THE HATCH
4894 Front St - Ponce Inlet - 386-761-4831

This is an excellent restaurant, a bit more dressy, but still casual. Great atmosphere, and Alaskan King crab legs. Need I say more?

DAYTONA ALE HOUSE
2610 West International Speedway Blvd - Daytona Beach - 904-255-1266

This loud and spacious sports bar is a blast to hang out with friends. Loads of TV's, sports memorabilia, a huge selection of beers, both bottle and draft, a varied menu with everything from finger foods to gourmet dinners make the Ale House the perfect spot for any occasion. Make sure you are hungry and with several friends before you order the Chicken Nachos!

AUNT CATFISH'S ON THE RIVER
4009 Halifax Drive - Port Orange - 386-767-4768

Like it sounds, homestyle catfish and other fare in a homey atmosphere on the river. Fresh seafood, charbroiled steaks, prime rib, rotisserie chicken, fresh baked cinnamon buns, barrel of creamy slaw, salad bar and get your own cheese grits and baked beans from the old stove.

CHI-LING CHINESE RESTAURANT & SUSHI BAR
4085 S. Ridgewood Avenue - Port Orange -386-788-9273

I know what you're thinking- another Chinese/Japanese mix of crap- but suprise, suprise- the sushi is excellent! Chinese food is good, too.

BILLY'S TAP ROOM & GRILL
58 East Granada Boulevard- Ormond Beach- 386-672-1910

You will love the ambiance of the original solid maple bar and mahogany paneling. Much like the Oak Room at the Plaza in New York or an English neighborhood restaurant, which is simply alive with 1920 atmosphere and warm congeniality. Old photos, period art and sketches, along with memorabilia, are reminiscent of another time. Dining at Billy’s in Ormond Beach is a landmark experience. This historic restaurant, established by Billy and Elizabeth MacDonald in 1922, has the reputation as a place where good friends meet, dine, and enjoy the spirits of good times.

ANGUS BEEF BAR & GRILL
530 Seabreeze Boulevard - Daytona Beach - 386-254-8300

Features great steaks and fine wines. House specialties include the 18 oz. Ribeye Filet AuPoiure, and the 22 oz. T-Bone.

THE BOOTHILL SALOON
310 Main Street - Daytona Beach - 800-831-0102

This place is a oyster bar/sports bar, rough around the edges, but a great hang nonetheless.

DECK DOWN UNDER
Under the Port Orange Bridge - 78 Dunlawton Avenue - Port Orange - 386-767-1881

This is a little restaurant right on the water and they serve everything from hamburgers to raw oysters. You can even dock your boat in one of their slips.

FROGGY'S SALOON
800 Main Street - Daytona Beach - 386-253-0330

A raucous bar on Main Street - favorite destination for bikers.

PONCE DE LEON INLET LIGHTHOUSE
4931 South Peninsula Drive - Ponce Inlet - 386-761-1821

During the 19th century, shipwrecks along the east coast of Florida were increasing at a staggering rate. The United States Lighthouse Board visited the area and determined a lighthouse was needed between Saint Augustine and Cape Canaveral. The Board recommended Mosquito Inlet, known for its strong current, shifting sand, and gusty wind as the prime location for the new lighthouse. By 1884, work was begun on the 175 foot tall structure built of red brick shipped from Baltimore, Maryland. It was completed in 1887. For over 80 years, the light was faithful to its service and never missed a night. However, in 1970, the Coast Guard established a beacon on the south side of the inlet and abandoned the lighthouse. Two years later, the lighthouse compound was deeded to the Town of Ponce Inlet with the establishment of the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association, Inc. The restoration of the buildings was soon begun, although the lighthouse remained dark for nearly 12 years. In late 1982, the Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse was officially reactivated and returned to its original use: A glorious beacon shining over 16 nautical miles, flashing every 10 seconds. The compound includes three original keepers' homes which are now museums, a historic 46-foot tugboat, and a new entrance building based on original 1884 plans for a dwelling which was never built. The "Beacon of Mosquito Inlet" is alive and well, providing the safety of its warning to today's mariners. As the tallest lighthouse in the United States open to the public, it is visited by more than 70,000 visitors annually and is one of the most popular attractions near Daytona Beach. The Ponce de Leon Inlet Lighthouse Preservation Association continues to enhance and restore this historic site, thus preserving it for the education of future generations.

DAYTONA USA
1801 W. International Speedway Boulevard - Daytona Beach - 386-947-6800

Since its opening in July 1996, DAYTONA USA has celebrated the racing accomplishments of thousands of men and women who have competed in Daytona Beach since the early 1900s.

On July 4, 2001, DAYTONA USA expanded with a 10,000-square foot addition that included DAYTONA DREAM LAPS, an IWERKS motion simulator ride, and ACCELERATION ALLEY, a state-of-the-art racing experience in which fans can drive the Daytona high banks for themselves in an 80% scale replica of a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup car.

DAYTONA USA added a third motion simulator in 2003 with Toyota Tundra's Thunder Road, a two-seat simulator that delivers a fantasy ride with a 360-degree flip.

On April 21, 2004, DAYTONA USA raised the curtain on the renovated Pepsi IMAX Theatre. The renovations made the Pepsi IMAX Theatre one of only four 3D IMAX Theatres in the state of Florida. Inside the Pepsi IMAX Theatre, guests view NASCAR 3D: The IMAX Experience and the award-winning "DAYTONA 500: The Movie."
